This morning, while reading the news on the increment of Wages and Salaries for Police officers across the country; I found a phrase in the statement of the Police while appreciating the President’s decision. See what I found out:
“I congratulate you on the success you recorded against criminals taxing people and stopping them from their farms. We are expecting more from you,” the president told the police leadership.
Mr Musiliu Smith, Chairman, Police Service Commission, represented by Justice Clara Ogunbiyi (rtd), had informed the president that the rank salary structure adjustment would enhance police welfare and morale.
The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, also gave the assurance that the police would redouble efforts to ensure free, fair and credible elections throughout the country next year.
The question in my heart is that, “Hope this salary adjustments are coincidental events towards 2019, and not strategic schemes to draw Policemen to the side of the ruling Party at the Polls?
Recently, Nigerians witnessed a form of vote buying prior to Osun Elections by the ruling party through the Tradermoni scheme. How about 30000 people were given 10,000 naira each by the Federal Government; and how APC merely won the election by less than 500 votes.
The question is, “Is the Federal Government really passionate about the welfare of Police officers or are they just been bought ahead of the polls?” My thought is, if the Policemen require welfare package adjustment, so also other paramilitary groups require. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
Peradventure this act is carried out of goodwill and clear conscience of the government; I would love to appeal to Federal authorities to be mindful of their decisions at this time of their administration, knowing fully well then most Nigerians wouldn’t trust all their decisions, since they have interests in the 2019 Presidential elections.
