So, when we are talking about hunger, God made you. He wired you the way you are. He is not less concerned about your personal heart desires. When I look through the people made, His disciples, there was nobody that followed Jesus by force, they all willingly because God connected with them in person. Look at Nathaniel, he was a hungry. They had read the Old Testament, they had read the prophets, the prophecies about Jesus coming they read it, so they were in expectation. So, when Jesus came they didn’t know the form in which the Messiah would come. But they knew the Messiah was coming. So, when Nathaniel was told about Jesus, he felt so many people have come and gone how true is this?
But when Jesus reached out to him, it was not the way He reached out to Peter. It was not the way He reached out to Andrew, He reached out to him personally. He said wow a devote believer and He communicated His heart and immediately, Nathaniel said, wow! You are indeed the Messiah, and Jesus said you have not even seen anything, you will see more.
Because I know you want to see more. When God creates a hunger in you, it’s an invitation to more. He is inviting you to more because, He knows your heart.
God will not call someone that is not hungry. Elisha did not follow Elijah with a shallow hunger or else he would have departed from him from Jordan, because when they will face the river Jordan, he will say at this point, my Lord; you can go in peace the Lord is with you. Let me return to the sons of the prophet. But there was a hunger, it was an invitation for more. No wonder he got the double portion. When God creates a hunger in you, it is an invitation for more, and that more is not in anybody else, it’s in God.
He is asking you to come up and receive more from Him. There are times when God creates physical hunger in us. They are interwoven. Don’t think all your hunger in life is to be praying in the Spirit, and be praying in tongues, and be reading the Bible. There are times you will have hunger, you will just have a desire. You have an expectation to just reach out to some people to become this to help people that hunger in you is an invitation for more don’t take that hunger and start running a race on your own there is a time to take that hunger to the measuring line of the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit how can this hunger be satisfied, give me my measuring line because every time we are hungry it is God that satisfy but the Holy Spirit has the measuring line.
God does not just satisfy you indefinitely, He doesn’t just give you everything because this my daughter is hungry take until you begin to constipated. No He doesn’t waste His resources so, He set lines for us, He measures those lines, God satisfies the hungry. Psalm 81:10 tells us:
I am the Lord your God,
Who brought you out of the land of Egypt;
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Open your mouth wide in expectation and I will fill it, I will satisfy you, that’s what God says and that call is not only for the Israelites it is also for you and I, open your mouth wide and I will fill it. Also, John 6:35 says: “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” This is holistic, and I love what Jesus said. I AM the bread of life, so you desire satisfaction in life, you are hungry in life, come to me, don’t go to your parents, don’t go to any man, come to me. And he said he who comes, so the condition is coming, that’s why the Bible says ask and you will receive, seek and you will find knock and the door shall be opened unto you. That means the prerequisite for having, or for finding is seeking. The prerequisite for receiving is asking, for the door to be open you must knock and that was the principle Jesus was explaining to them here.
You can’t be hungry and stay with yourself, you can’t be satisfied. If you are truly hungry, come to me and anyone that is with me who believes in me will not thirst. So, God satisfies the hungry. So, do you have a desire, do you have an expectation? Do you desire more, God satisfies, you have the responsibility to be hungry and God has the responsibility to satisfy you to the degree of your hunger. What hunger does for you, it produces in you capacity for more. When Elisha said to that widow go and borrow vessels and he put a clause not a few because the oil is to the degree of the empty vessels, the Bible says when the vessels finished the oil stayed. When your hunger is exhausted, satisfaction stays. So God satisfies you to the level of your hunger, He satisfies you to the degree of your hunger. A hungry man is an expectant man, he is a dissatisfied man and this is where we cut the balance between hunger and contentment.
When you are expectant, that is why the Holy Spirit made us to realize from the beginning that you been hungry is an invitation for more in God and the Holy Spirit has the measuring line. When He doesn’t measure for you a thousand, don’t go. When you force your way to go it shows discontentment, when you are hungry the Holy Spirit is aware of your hunger and He gives you the road, He gives you the means through which you will be satisfied in God.
So, He tells you to go and read a book, He ask you to give more time to prayers and meditation. He ask you to study a particular book He is giving you a measuring line that will satisfy you in God. But a man that has not been given a measuring line that decides that’s when discontentment comes in that’s false expectations, what you cannot achieve you want to get it by force, that’s what discontentment produces, when you are dissatisfied it doesn’t mean that you are not discontented, you can be contented and be hungry, you are hungry for more of God. Isaiah 55:1 says:
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
Every word that is used here is deliberate, you have no money, come buy and eat, yes come buy wine and milk without money and without price. Let me read verse 2.
Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Jesus said I am the bread of life. So, why do you spend your resources, your time, your energy on what is not bread and your wages for what does not satisfy, listen carefully and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance, when you take the measuring line your soul will get abundance. If you read from verse 6-12 of Ezekiel 47, you will realize that the waters produce abundance more than enough that your life cannot consume it. It’s not for you, it blesses people around you, it blesses nations and generations that’s the kind of results that when God puts a hunger in you that is the kind of results it produces.
A hungry man is an empty man and available man. If you are hungry, you are empty and available. That’s why you see that contentment and hunger are not conflicting. When you are empty and available, you are hungry, in Acts 2 when the 120 Apostles were in the Upper Room, they were empty people, they were available. There were so many disciples of Jesus but those 120 were the available and the 120 were those that were empty. And the Bible says the Holy Spirit came on each and every one of them, each and every empty and available person in that room, no empty and available person was left out. So, the question is; what state are you? Are you empty and available? Because it is to the degree of your emptiness and availability that God can pour, you can have an empty vessel but it is not available it is covered, there are some lives like that God you can’t have access to me I am sorry.

You have put a lid even though you are empty. But an empty and available man, there is no lid, there is no veil he is vulnerable, he comes to God the way he is and those are the people that God fills. Been hungry is a posture we must all take daily been vulnerable in the hands of the Holy Spirit He wants to teach you something, He wants to measure a line for, you are not too busy, many of us are too busy and we busy out the Holy Spirit, we busy out drawing any line for us, we are not even available, He wants to speak to us that’s when we are watching TV that’s when we are carrying our phones, that’s when we are running to catch an appointment no time. A hungry man creates time for the Holy Spirit because if you are not available He cannot measure your line for you.
Ezekiel had to be there, see what he said then he “brought me” if He did not find me He will not bring me, so is the Holy Spirit finding us, so that He can bring us through or we are too busy, we are unavailable is He finding us? So we must all take the posture of being hungry everyday in our spiritual walk with God. That’s why in 1 Peter 2:2 it talks about us taking the posture of new born babes the kind of desire they have for the pure milk that is the kind of expectation, the kind of hunger, the kind of desire that we must have before the Lord.
Hunger produces in you the capacity to receive from God, if you are not hungry you cannot receive from God. Hunger produces in you the capacity to receive from God it’s about the capacity to receive from God. Hunger without faith is useless and hopeless you can’t be hungry and lack faith to receive it is a useless hunger, you must be able to identify. If Mr Abiola is hungry for instance and I present food before him and he cannot identify that this is food, how will he be satisfied? So we must walk in faith and we must always identify all the time. Just know that it is only God that can satisfy you.
There is a song my husband loves so much, he plays that song over and over again, The lyrics of the song says ; “you and I know am thirsty Lord, and you and I know that you are the only one that can fill me up” we must come to that point where you know no one else can satisfy you but God. You have all these big dreams and ideas, come and submit it at the foot of the Holy Spirit. Don’t go to cloud nine in your mind and just stay there and you are not available for the Holy Spirit to work on your mind to produce from it godliness produce the will of God to work in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure, you must recognize that it is only God that can satisfy you. So don’t be hungry in isolation. You will say I just have a burden, and it has create a vacuum in my life, and you have told everybody in the world except God that can satisfy you, you are in error.
When you have a burden, when you know God has created a hunger in you don’t be running up and down be looking for men, go to God, go to the one that can satisfy you, it’s not time to be running helter-skelter, it’s not time to be replacing it, even though I have this desire let me replace it with something else, no! Go to the Holy Spirit and get your measuring line so that you will be satisfied, because there are so many beautiful experiences that comes from that satisfaction.
In our private time lets read Ezekiel 47:1-12 and I trust that the Holy Spirit, the teacher will explain it to you in the language that you would understand because the truth is, until you become hungry we can’t be satisfied, you want to see great things happen for God on the earth, you want to see people speaking in tongues on the street just falling down under the anointing and given their lives to Christ as you just pass, it comes with a level of hunger it is not just a desire.
You can’t just well up the desire that I want to be like John G Lake, it doesn’t come like that, you can’t just want to be Katherine Kulman, let me be wearing the gown. It’s not about the gown, there was a level of hunger that produced that experience in her, there was a level of hunger that produced that experience in him, are you ready to go through with the Holy Spirit, are you ready to be satisfied by the Lord?
