“And Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, nor will I let Israel go”.
Exodus 5:2
Just like Pharaoh, quite a lot of people do not know the LORD; even as they make every attempt to worship and serve Him, they still lack the basic knowledge of His Person and His Power: For if they had known the LORD, the rebellion (sin) that pervades our societies today would not have been.
Of a truth, a good number of people also serve the LORD in various capacities, and claim to be His representatives; yet, they lack the simple knowledge of God. In Hosea 4:6, the Scriptures reveal the heart of God concerning those who profess to be serving Him; yet, lacked knowledge (of His Law, Person and Power).
In the book of Acts 17:22-33, the Scriptures also shows us how a people can possibly worship Whom they do not know. The sad this is this, ‘no one can possibly obey (follow) who he or she does not now’; hence, obedience is often preceded by knowledge. And the heart cry of the LORD is to have a people unto Himself, that like Apostle Paul, would keep praying, “That I may know Him!”
Having said all that, let me briefly but clearly and boldly talk about God (The LORD).
- He Is The LORD God:
Although, this seems obvious, yet a lot of us do not know this. The ‘lord’ is literally the master or owner. Thus, the LORD God is the Master of all (living and non-living); and the Owner of all (both on the earth and in the heavens). He owns us all: For we are creatures or products of His Word.
The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; but the earth He (the LORD) has given to the children of men.
(Psalms 115:16)
The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.
(Psalms 24:1)
- He Is The Almighty:
Today, we have mighty men, cities and nations. We also have mighty political leaders; however, the LORD is the Almighty. All might (power) exudes from Him. He, by His own will, gives might and strength to all. That also implies that He holds the exclusive power to give power and revoke the same. Power originates from His Person; and every power in heaven and on earth is a delegated power from Him. Another name that explains this attribute of God is omnipotence – He can do all things!
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created by Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:16
- He Is The Source of Life:
Life is actually the most valuable asset of any man; yet, life is freely given to any man. According to the book of Genesis 2:7, life came after the LORD released His breath (the breath of life) into the nostrils of man. Thus, the LORD is the source of life. Man truly has no control over life, but the LORD; hence, no man can take or revoke life without the knowledge of God. Psalms 36:9 says, “For with thee is a fountain of life, and in Your Light, we see light”. Thus, God is the Source, Giver and the Preserver of life.
- He Is The Righteous Judge:
O yes! We have judges in our societies, and they establish justice in the land; however, they are mere shadows of the real Judge – the LORD. He judges our thoughts, actions and motives; and He is a righteous and impartial Judge. Unlike the Judges of the earth; He is no respecter of persons and He never judges by mere appearance or presentation, but in righteousness. “His delight is in the fear of the LORD, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears; but with righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth …” Isaiah 11:3-4. What a confidence we have in our impartial King and Judge!
- He Is The God of Knowledge:
As God, He is the Master and Owner – the final Authority! Thus, being the God of knowledge, it implies that He is the Master and Owner of knowledge – the final Authority on any body of knowledge; both of the visible realm and the invisible. Before Him, everything is open and clear; nothing is hidden or blurred. Being the source of Light, there is no darkness before Him. He knows about the past, the present and the future. Whatever anyone knows about God, the environment (chemical or physical or mechanical) he or she lives, the circumstance around him or her or about himself or herself; is basically a minute fraction of god’s knowledge that He chose to share with him or her.
“..For the LORD is the God of knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed.” (1 Samuel 2:3). Hence, never at any time or moment, imagine the ignorance of God about what you are doing, thinking and saying – For He is the Omniscient One.
- He Is The Redeemer of His People:
To those who really want to know the LORD; He is the Redeemer – He is not a Redeemer; rather, theRedeemer. The LORD is the One that buys back His people from the market of sin, affliction and oppression. “And they shall call them the Holy People, the Redeemed of the LORD; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.” (Isaiah 62:12)
- He Is The Helper of His People:
It is customary for man to require some help of some sort. Sometimes, we expect our friends, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, parents, governments and leaders to help us; but the truth is, the help of man will surely fail us. “Then, as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying, “Help my lord, O king!” And he said, “If the LORD does not help you, where can I find help for you? From the threshing floor or from the winepress?” (2 Kings 6:26-27). No wonder the Bible declares woe upon the that put their trust in men. Listen, every help of man towards you is a function of God’s help unto you!
- He Is The I AM WHO I AM:
The journey unto the full knowledge of God is indeed an endless journey; for the LORD Himself is an infinite (Endless – Unquantifiable – Inexhaustible) God. He has no beginning, and He has no end. He is to each one, what he or she knows God to be. This implies that, should you believe the LORD to be your Provider – He shall be same to you; should you know Him to be a Faithful Friend – He will also be same to you. Really, the LORD is able to be whatever you know Him to be. He is the Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent and the Ruler over the kings of the earth.
The greatest favour or good you could ever do to yourself is to make knowing the LORD your topmost priority in life: For the more you know the LORD, the more you will trust Him, and the more you will be willing and ready to obey His commandments, laws, precepts and instructions.
“…But the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”
Daniel 11:32
