Workers at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari against the Director General of the institute, Professor Innocent Ujah, over alleged corruption and mismanagement of the NIMR. The workers, in a petition written by the ‘Concerned NIMR Staff’ and titled ‘Financial Misconduct and Abuse of Office by Prof. Innocent Achanya Otobo Ujah (The Director General, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research),’ accused him of employment racketeering and illegal payment of salaries and other emoluments. A Makurdi High Court judge, Justice Theresa Igoche, has dismissed the motion filed by a former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, seeking a stay of execution on the judgment delivered against him to revoke his allocation of Atom Kpera Lodge. The Standard Organisation of Nigeria has confiscated over 500 expired tyres and electrical cables from dealers in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. The Department of Petroleum Resources, Port Harcourt Zone, said it had so far sealed off 33 filling stations for their involvement in unwholesome practices. The Zonal Operations Controller, Port Harcourt, Mrs. Chioma Njoku, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the filling stations were sealed for under-dispensing, overpricing and hoarding of fuel.
