The World Health Organisation has acknowledged Togo as the first country to eliminate four Neglected Tropical Diseases globally. The WHO made this known during its Regional Committee for Africa meeting held in Lomé on Monday. The PUNCH reports that between 2011 and 2022, Togo has successfully eliminated dracunculiasis (Guinea worm disease), elephantiasis (lymphatic filariasis), human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) and trachoma. The Director, Planning Research and Statistics, Federal Ministry of Works Mr. Jide Ode Marthins, has said that before the end of the year 2023 quite a number of roads projects will be completed and inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari. The era of manual transmission of election results is gone for good, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said yesterday. The electronic transmission of poll results, the electoral umpire said, has come to stay. INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, clarified the position in a statement in Abuja. In the statement titled: “Clarification on Electronic Transmission of Election Result,” Okoye said that electronic transmission of results would be deployed for the 2023 general elections. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said that was an increase in the prices of selected food items in July 2022. It made the declaration in its Selected Food Prices Watch Report for July 2022 released in Abuja on Monday. The NBS stated that the average price of 1kg of white beans rose by 23.22 per cent from N444.21 in July 2021 to N547.38 in July 2022. “On a month-on-month basis, the price increased by 2.09 per cent from N536.17 in June 2022 to N547.38 in July 2022,” it added. The Federal Government on Saturday called on the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to consider the plights of Nigerian students who have stayed at home for six months and call off the strike.
