When the Asteroids invade the earth, many Scientists get uncomfortable; and in a bid to guarantee life and safety, they engage in space exploration projects. The same goes to the crises-stricken nations of Africa and Middle East; when Militants invade their nations; helpless citizens seek for foreign migration as the only way for survival, safety and peace. This is the second part of our discussion on the new wave of slavery in our time. In the first part(Refugee Migration: The New Wave of Slavery In 21st Century Pt.2), we saw how slavery was fought by men and women across culture, race and religion. While many people have long slept over the matter of slavery; quite a number of mischievous people across the world are bent on achieving the revival of such act of terror against humanity. While many people hold the ideology of the “Survival of the fittest” very dearly, it is important that we realize the weaknesses…

A strong movement emerged in 18th-century Britain to put an end to the buying and selling of human beings. This campaign to abolish the slave trade developed alongside international events such as the French Revolution, as well as retaliation by maroon communities, sporadic unrest, and individual acts of resistance from enslaved people in the British colonies. The campaigners faced a long and difficult struggle. These early activists included men such as Thomas Clarkson and George Fox, who argued that the only way to end the suffering of enslaved Africans was to make the slave trade illegal by banning British ships from taking part in…

In 1807 the Houses of Parliament in London enacted legislation prohibiting British subjects from participating in the slave trade. Indirectly, this legislation was one of the reasons for the collapse of Oyo. Britain withdrew from the slave trade while it was the major transporter of slaves to the Americas. Furthermore, the French had been knocked out of the trade during the French Revolution beginning in 1789 and by the Napoleonic wars of the first fifteen years of the nineteenth century. Between them, the French and the British had purchased a majority of the slaves sold from the ports of Oyo.…

If according to the word of John C. Maxwell, “Everything Rises And Falls On Leadership”; then, the recent protest by the officers and men of the Mobile Police Unit of the Nigerian Police Force should be blamed on the IGP. While Nigerians will appreciate the quick response to this matter by the Presidency; the only thing that will improve the confidence of the people of North East in the Nigerian Security apparatus, especially the Nigerian Police Force is a change of guard! When football teams go wrong, the first point of call is the sack of the Team Coach or…

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday met behind closed doors with the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting came shortly after the news broke that some policemen were protesting against non-payment of their allowances in Maiduguri, Borno State. It was, however, not clear if Idris was summoned over  the protest or he decided on his own to brief Osinbajo on the development. The meeting, which was held inside the Vice-President’s office, came at a time President Muhammadu Buhari was attending the 31st Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State…

While I sympathize with the families of every Nigerian that has become victim of the incessant killings across Nigeria, it is important that we all reason together to find a lasting solution to this menace of insecurity in Nigeria. Without doubt, addressing the Nigerian Police Force as an organization by the National Assembly is a good step towards fixing the problem; I am however of the opinion that we must as people settle the matter of professionalism of the Force. In numerous instances across Nigeria, I have seen Police officers and men in different states that…

Divide and rule (or divide and conquer, from Latin dīvide et imperā) in politics and sociology is gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into pieces that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. The concept refers to a strategy that breaks up existing power structures, and especially prevents smaller power groups from linking up, causing rivalries and fomenting discord among the people. It was heavily used by British Empire in India and elsewhere. (Encyclopedia) If one meditate over the above paragraph, one would realize that the long-lived strategy of satan is the same strategy that many empires and governments have used…

In a quick glance of the state of affairs in Nigeria, one would call to remembrance, the state of affairs of the ancient Israel nation. For a long time in Israel, the family of  David from the tribe of Judah was ruling in Israel. Soon after Solomon the son of David, his own son Rehoboam became king in Israel, a position similar to that of President Mohammadu Buhari in Nigeria. Since he inherited the position, he had little or no capacity to sustain the enormous people and land. In a quick move that was orchestrated by his poor leadership decision,…
