Empowering women’s birth control choices: Exploring non-oral contraceptive alternatives

The role that drugs play in our society today when talking about intimacy has caused me to ask this question. Is delaying and putting a stop to the process of our egg fertilization better than using the latex contraceptive?

Women now are hypnotized by the idea that if you use a condom during sexual intercourse, it is not as enjoyable as without it which makes the usage of other contraceptives like birth control pills high. This raises concern because in the world today, almost anyone can get access to drugs anywhere without knowing the effects of the drug when taken incorrectly. Even prescribed medication comes with side effects because their body system is not one hundred percent compatible with the drugs. Whatever inconvenience is caused by latex contraceptives, no oral contraceptive is better and safer than other contraceptives.

Although there are other safer and better contraceptives apart from condoms, not a lot of people know that. The majority of the people involved in sexual intercourse just want to “taste the real stuff” as they say and avoid using condoms but pills instead. According to research, currently, there are three types of oral contraceptive pills: combined estrogen-progesterone, progesterone-only, and continuous or extended-use pills. The birth control pill is the most commonly prescribed form of contraception in the US. Approximately 25 per cent of women aged 15 to 44, who currently use contraception reported using the pill as their method of choice. The most commonly prescribed pill is the combined hormonal pill with estrogen and progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone that prevents pregnancy, and the estrogen component controls menstrual bleeding. Birth control pills are primarily used to prevent pregnancy and are mostly used in marriages.

It is important to know the disadvantages of oral contraceptives because they dangerously narrow down the chances of pregnancy when needed. People need to think again about their method of contraception, or it’ll be too late for that decision when the harm is done.

To avoid that, I’d like to inform people that there are other ways to protect our ovaries and stay healthy. If you ask me, I’d say a condom is better than a birth control pill, or if not any of these options, I would say you should go for the withdrawal method.

I have a friend who did not want to get pregnant immediately after marriage so she indulged herself in taking birth control pills while she was being intimate for a whole year. When she was ready to take a child, she could not conceive and when she visited the hospital, she was told she had cervical erosion which takes me back to my statement, “even with prescribed medication, the careful intake of some drugs, people still get negatively affected by them because their body system is not compatible for the drugs.”

As I mentioned earlier, it is better to use other contraceptives like Intrauterine Device(IUD), condoms, or withdrawal methods than oral contraceptives. Birth control pills affect a woman’s menstrual cycle but IUD doesn’t. While using IUD, you still have your regular period when due, no spotting, and no chance of getting liver problems or blood clots because it goes through your vagina and is not to be swallowed and digested into the blood. And though the withdrawal method is not reliable, it’s still safer than birth control pills. The intake of drugs is bothering and causes for a wrinkled forehead because the wrong use of it can cause serious medical problems.

It is therefore itching for acknowledgement for someone like me to say something about it because I have friends with the same thoughts about using oral contraceptives when there are safer methods of getting intimate and not getting pregnant. Young married women in society today need to be educated on the dangers of birth control pills and consider which other method is suitable for their situation or marriage and if they want to adopt it or not.
