The South-West Zonal Director, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Olasunkanmi Dunmoye, on Thursday, said the 72 housing units being constructed in Oyo State would be completed before April.
He gave the assurance in Ibadan during an inspection tour of the housing project located on the Oyo-Ibadan Expressway, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
Dunmoye said that the housing project, which was at 70 per cent completion, would be handed over to the Federal Government by the contractors before April.
He said that the first phase of the National Housing Project was ongoing in 34 states, including the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, only Lagos and Rivers states have yet to benefit from the project.
“No other administration in the country after the Shehu Shagari-led administration has embarked on such direct construction of houses except the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration,” the director said.
“The purpose of the project is to provide housing, create jobs and also empower Nigerians. The president instructed that the project should be undertaken by local contractors and materials sourced locally,” he added.
Dunmoye said that the aim of the Buhari-led administration was to solve the housing deficit and provide empowerment for the people.
Also speaking, the Director of Architectural Services and Team Leader, National Housing Project in Oyo State, Mr Mosunmade Odusanya, noted that the 72-unit housing project consisted of 20 blocks of two-bedroom apartments, 16 blocks of three-bedroom apartments and a three-floor condominium of 24 units.
The team leader explained that some of the blocks had been completed while the remaining were above 50 per cent completion.
Odusanya said that some other facilities to be provided within the housing estate for the benefit of occupants included roads, water and electricity.
