Hello and welcome to Sportskeeda’s Daily Transfer Roundup. We have some exciting bits of news to bring to you today as the summer transfer window starts to gather pace ahead of its grand conclusion.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the top transfer news, rumours and updates that made headlines on 13 July 2019.
Manchester United slap £90 million price tag on Lukaku in response to Inter Milan’s approach
Is Red Rom going to end up staying at Old Trafford?
Romelu Lukaku could kick on as a Manchester United player beyond the summer as the club looks to price Inter Milan out of a potential deal. Inter Milan’s director Piero Ausilio met with Manchester United’s representatives earlier this week and proposed an offer that was nowhere near the Red Devils’ valuation of their striker.
Inter Milan wanted to loan Lukaku out for the season for £9 million with an obligation to buy him for £53.7 million. Manchester United are under no pressure to sell Lukaku and hence will only let him go for the right price. They are aware of Lukaku’s desire to play for Inter but will only accept a cash deal.
Manchester United had roped in Lukaku from Everton in the summer of 2017 for a hefty sum of £75 million. If they sell him this summer, Everton stand to gain £5 million from the deal. As such, Manchester United want to cash in, in what’s proving to be an inflated transfer market.
Antonio Conte is well aware that Inter’s protracted move for Lukaku is contingent on offloading Mauro Icardi for a reasonable amount of money. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, on the other hand, has reiterated that the club will not allow players to leave for cheap just because they are interested in a move.
Manchester United are also not very forthcoming with Inter Milan since the latter refused to budge in earlier transfer windows when the Red Devils were looking to sign Ivan Perisic. Inter wanted £50 million for the Croat and turned down a £45 million bid made by United.
Inter Milan releases statement on Mauro Icardi; striker will not be part of pre-season tour
It’s been a long summer for Mauro Icardi
The relationship between Argentine striker Mauro Icardi and Inter Milan is growing increasingly strained. The club has now revealed that Icardi will depart from Inter’s training camps and kick on with his reconditioning process independently.
Inter Milan have benefitted greatly from Icardi’s exploits in their frontline and he was the captain of the side until things started going south with Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara airing grievances against the club on a public platform. Icardi looks set to leave Inter Milan but there are no potential suitors waiting in line to sign him.
The club released a statement which read:
“Mauro Icardi will return to Milan today from the Lugano retreat. The club and the Argentine striker took this decision by mutual agreement. Icardi will continue his athletic reconditioning process in the coming days and will not take part in the summer tour in Asia.”
Matthijs de Ligt left out of Ajax’s preseason squad as Juventus move nears completion
De Ligt’s Ajax days are coming to a close
Ajax have released a statement confirming Matthijs de Ligt’s absence from their squad for their pre-season tour. The former Ajax captain has been left out owing to the possibility of a transfer happening before the summer is over.
Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona were heavily linked with the 19-year-old. However, recent reports suggest that de Ligt is very close to joining Juventus after agreeing personal terms with the Serie A champions.
The statement read:
“Ajax left Saturday afternoon with 28 players to the training camp in Bramberg, Austria. Awaiting a possible transfer, Matthijs De Ligt does not travel with the group.”
Matthijs de Ligt was the shining light of the young and vibrant Ajax squad that left heads turning in Europe with their sensational displays in this past season’s UEFA Champions League where they narrowly missed out on the final after having slain several big clubs that came in their way.
Atletico Madrid disputing Barcelona’s deal for Griezmann
More trouble for Griezmann
Barcelona announced the signing of Antoine Griezmann yesterday. The drawn-out saga is yet to come to an end though. Atletico had condemned Barcelona’s early approach for the Frenchman via a statement released on their official website.
Barcelona were looking sign Griezmann after July 1 when his release clause dropped from €200 million to €120 million. However, Atletico Madrid are now claiming that the Catalans have not deposited the right amount with LaLiga. Atletico believe that the amount is €80 million less, as Barcelona had agreed terms with Griezmann before July 1.
Their latest statement reads:
“Atlético de Madrid believes that the amount deposited is insufficient to meet [Griezmann’s] buy-out clause, since it is obvious that the player committed to FC Barcelona before the aforementioned clause was reduced from 200 to 120 million euros,”
“Atlético de Madrid believes that the termination of the contract occurred before the end of last season due to events, acts and demonstrations carried out by the player and that is why the club has already started the procedures it considers appropriate for the defense of its legitimate rights and interests.”
Barcelona to include trio in deal for Neymar Jr
Real Sociedad v FC Barcelona – La Liga
Neymar Jr. has made it clear to Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to return to Barcelona. The Catalans are trying to work out a deal where they would not have to shell out the dastardly amount of money that Neymar will fetch for PSG in the current transfer market and are looking to include one of Philippe Coutinho or Ousmane Dembele, Nelson Semedo and Samuel Umtiti.
If Neymar Jr. returns to the Camp Nou, the players he will surely displace from the first team are Coutinho and Dembele. Both players have been struggling with their own issues and the Spanish champions are open to selling the duo.
The combined salaries of the trio is, however, more than what Neymar earns at PSG and therefore, the Ligue 1 champions are contemplating the feasibility of such a deal.
