Hello and welcome to the Manchester United transfer roundup for the day! After a slow day last night, we are back again with a bang as stories surrounding the most popular club in England is in no dearth in the media.
To summarise, there is a bit of a bad news regarding Alexis Sanchez, some good news on De Gea and an absolutely insane story about Neymar. And so without further ado, let’s begin!
#5 De Gea’s hands tied
Bellamy is of the opinion that had the Galacticos not signed the former Chelsea goalkeeper, De Gea would have been awarded a contract by now
After Real Madrid signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea, it killed all the possibility of David De Gea moving back to the Spanish capital. It was, after all, the Belgian former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper that is now donning the goalkeeper gloves at the Santiago Bernabeu.
This leaves De Gea with fewer options, at least according to Craig Bellamy, who believes that the reason why the Red Devils are taking time in completing an extension with the Spain shot-stopper is due to Courtois joining Real Madrid.
“If you’re Manchester United, you have to get that done,” Bellamy said.
“Even Courtois going to Real Madrid, that’s probably why United are taking their time a little bit now.”
Bellamy is of the opinion that had the Galacticos not signed the former Chelsea goalkeeper, De Gea would have been awarded a contract by now.
“I’m sure it would have got done straight away, maybe that’s blocked that route.”
The former Manchester City forward then added that he always had a feeling that the Spain number would eventually guard the sticks at the Bernabeu but now that the World Cup Golden Glove winner is with the Galaticos, De Gea’s options are limited.
“I always felt he was going to Madrid and it was just a matter of time. Courtois going there now, if you’re De Gea it’s like, ‘Where can I go?’.”
Since most top clubs already have world-class first-choice goalkeepers, Bellamy thinks that the Spaniard is in a weakened position right now.
“A lot of the top clubs now, Barcelona as well, you look at these top clubs that maybe would be able to get him, they’re all comfortable with their No 1s. I think it weakens his position.”
#4 Alexis Sanchez could be a casualty if Zidane takesover
He could be in trouble if Zizou comes in
While it is not a good trait to judge someone without completely knowing them, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is certainly not a believer of the aforementioned moral mannerism.
At least that is what Caught Offside seem to believe as they claim that the three-time Champions League-winning manager is not a fan of the former Barcelona forward.
As a result, Sanchez, who was only signed in the last January transfer window, might be one of the first casualties should the Red Devils hire the legendary former France midfielder.
In defense of Zidane, the former Arsenal forward has been somewhat poor ever since joining Manchester United.
#3 United join race to sign Frenkie De Jong
One of the best talents
Ajax have always been a club that produced some of the best talents the football world has ever seen. From the legendary Johan Cruyff to Christian Eriksen in current times, the Dutch club is a hub that gifts the world with supremely talented footballers.
Among the latest talents, Frenkie De Jong is a player that is sending a lot of shockwaves throughout Europe as numerous top clubs are looking to acquire his signature.
According to The Sun, it seems as though Manchester United have joined the race with Tottenham and Barcelona to sign the youngster. The Red Devils have sent their scouts down to have a look at him as Mourinho is seemingly a fan of the player.
#2 Ivan Rakitic to join the Red Devils?
It seems as though the Red Devils have shifted their focus in midfield as they are being linked with quite a few midfielders of late. With Frenkie De Jong mentioned earlier, the Red Devils are also apparently looking at another midfield general.
According to Don Balon, Manchester United are looking at the possibility of signing Ivan Rakitic and bringing him to the Old Trafford.
They also add that while Mourinho and Pogba have called a truce between themselves, the Portuguese former Real Madrid manager is open to the idea of letting the French World Cup winner join the Catalans if he gets the former Sevilla midfielder in return.
Valverde, however, is completely against the idea of losing the 2018 World Cup finalist.
#1 Mourinho wants Neymar at United
Here is the blockbuster rumour of the day. There is not a window that goes by without the Red Devils being linked with some of the best players in the world. And today, Neymar finds himself being linked to the Manchester outfit.
According to Don Balon, Jose Mourinho has an obsession and it is none other than the former Barcelona star.
Such is his desperation that, the report further adds, he has asked the board to take advantage of PSG’s tour of England for the match they played against Liverpool in the Champions League.
This comes as a bad news for Real Madrid, who are also looking to add Neymar as the crown jewel of the Bernabeu.
