In the last 7 years, Nigeria’s politicians (especially the ruling class or party) have used a word more every other. One would have thought that the predominance of that word in their communications is an evident of the truthfulness or authenticity of if; however, the truth must be told. I am sure you are quick to know the word; but I am equally sure that you have heard or read about it even today. The word is nothing but, “Sabotage”! each time I hear the former Minister of Petroleum (Mrs. Diezani Alison Maduekwe), former Minister of Power (Prof. Nebo) and the former Minister of Finance (Dr (Mrs.) Ngozi Okonjo) attribute the lack of adequate power supply in the nation to the Saboteurs; I couldn’t help but remember a Scripture, “The lazy man says, “There is lion in the road! A fierce lion is in the streets!” As a door turns on its hinges, so does the lazy man on his bed.” (Proverbs 26:13-14). And in another instance, “The lazy man says, “There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!” (Proverbs 22:13).
While my heart ponders on the incessant outbursts of our elected and appointed officials of the Federal Government of Nigeria; I could not help but wonder how they think and how they think the people think! The question they emerged from my thought is very plain; “if there are so much Saboteurs in Nigeria that frustrate the progressive policies of the Federal Government; how come the FG had successfully maneuvered itself during elections at various levels of government?” Before you become sympathetic of the last administration in Nigeria; please, spend a few seconds to ask yourself why Saboteurs do not stop the elected and appointed officials from their corrupt acts; but only show up for their great or good actions?
Saboteurs do exist across the world; but the people that have led their people effectively across the world, from US to UK to Japan and Australia; have learnt how to deal effectively with them. Sometime ago, I thought about the “giant” strides of the former of Governor of Akwa Ibiom State (Senator Akpabio) and the former Governor of Lagos State (Babatunde Fashola – SAN); then, I asked myself; “how come these Governors have done so much in spite of the activities of the “Saboteurs“? Then, I realized that those who have a will (a plan and a drive), usually have their way. It is often said that the people will make way for a man that knows where he is going.
I will therefore advice the elected and appointed officials of the Federal and State Governments to desist from the lay-back attitude of “lion in the field” and get down to work the work that necessitated their appointment in the service of fatherland. Nigeria is too blessed to be stressed; and Nigerians are too exposed to be deceived: for if a man sows deceit in governance; he or she will reap defeat at the polls. A word they say is enough for the wise!
