In political science, a revolution is a fundamental and relatively sudden change in political power and political organization which occurs when the population revolts against the government, typically due to perceived oppression or political incompetence. According to the Coalition for Revolution in Nigeria, Nigerians across the country are expected to begin their agitation for change in the administration of Nigeria.
However, one of the leading voices of the #RevolutionNow, in the person of Omoyele Sowore was arrested in his house a few nights ago. The question in our minds is, “Is the Presidency Afraid of Omoyele Sowore?” Should you say no; then why was he arrested, just like 2face was arrested before he could lead any protest? Again, does the Presidency believe that arresting Sowore is same as arresting any kind of revolution? Is the Presidency not supposed to be afraid of millions of Nigerians who didn’t participate at all in the last elections?
Come to think of it, out of the millions of people who got their PVCs in the 2019 general elections, only a percentage of them, less than 40% eventually voted for or against the new administration. That immediately suggest that there are more agitated minds in Nigeria than what many Nigerian politicians would love to admit. Again, should Sowore be arrested without prosecution, won’t more silent agitators be provoked out of the silence? Shouldn’t the FG be weary of those millions instead of facing one or two leaders like 2face and Sowore?
