6 Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive[a] with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 There were [b]giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then [c]the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent[d] of the thoughts of his heart was only evil [e]continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Genesis 6:1-8 (NKJV)
If you have read the book of Genesis 1 and 2; and you saw how God was fulfilled after creating the whole earth (including mankind); you would feel sorry for the entire human race reading what happened in Genesis 6. While that incidence was only summarized in a few verses of that book of Genesis; it was never a small occurrence: for the matter lingered on the earth for many years. Those years were years that grieved the heart of God; they were so filled with evil that God called it so.
If you read the book of Daniel 4:17, you will find a conspicuous word, which we must understand as the Lord permits us in this article:
17 ‘This decision is by the decree of the watchers,
And the sentence by the word of the holy ones,
In order that the living may know
That the Most High rules in the kingdom of men,
Gives it to whomever He will,
And sets over it the lowest of men.’
The question you might want to ask is, “Who Are The Watchers?” According to the book of Jude 1:5-6: “ But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;” The Watchers from the book of Daniel were angels who have responsibility under God to WATCH the inhabitants of the earth, but the book of Enoch was clear in revealing the identity of certain of the Watchers who saw the daughters of men as being attractive and took wives of them. From the book of Enoch, we understand that there were 200 of those Watchers, who violated their code of conduct as SPIRITUAL (heavenly) beings and decided to do what the sons of man do – taking wives!
From the book of Genesis 6:1-8, we saw how evil came upon the entire earth through the ACTIVITIES of the children of these Watchers. What happened was, the Watchers took as wives and impregnated certain daughters of men (women); and gave birth to giants (which many people called Nephilims (Wikipedia – The Nephilim /ˈnɛfɪˌlɪm/ (Hebrew: נְפִילִים, nefilim) were the offspring of the “sons of God” and the “daughters of men” before the Deluge, according to Genesis 6:1–4). These Nephilims became lords, kings and gods of many people and lands; and their mothers were taught sorcery, incantations, etc., by the fallen angels (Watchers). Knowing fully well they were violating the code of ethics of their responsibility; they bound themselves under oath that their punishment would rest upon all of them (none would deny participation in the evil act).
Besides the teaching of sorcery, the fallen watchers also taught people how to make knives, weapons of war and other crafts; as a result of that, evil was instituted on earth. It was these evil activities that provoked God’s anger on the entire earth that brought about the flood in the days of Noah. But before we move on with that, I would love to share with you what God did to the fallen watchers and their children (sons – giants).
1Then addressing me, He spoke and said, Hear, neither be afraid, O righteous Enoch, you scribe of righteousness: approach hither, and hear my voice. Go, say to the Watchers of heaven, who have sent you to pray for them, You ought to pray for men, and not men for you.
2Wherefore have you forsaken the lofty and holy heaven, which endures for ever, and have lain with women; have defile yourselves with the daughters of men; have taken to yourselves wives; have acted like the sons of the earth, and have begotten an impious offspring? (23)
(23) An impious offspring. Literally, “giants” (Charles, p. 82; Knibb, p. 101).
3You being spiritual, holy, and possessing a life which is eternal, have polluted yourselves with women; have begotten in carnal blood; have lusted in the blood of men; and have done as those who are flesh and blood do.
4These however die and perish.
5Therefore have I given to them wives, that they might cohabit with them; that sons might be born of them; and that this might be transacted upon earth.
6But you from the beginning were made spiritual, possessing a life which is eternal, and not subject to death for ever.
7Therefore I made not wives for you, because, being spiritual, your dwelling is in heaven.
8Now the giants, who have been born of spirit and of flesh, shall be called upon earth evil spirits, and on earth shall be their habitation. Evil spirits shall proceed from their flesh, because they were created from above; from the holy Watchers was their beginning and primary foundation. Evil spirits shall they be upon earth, and the spirits of the wicked shall they be called. The habitation of the spirits of heaven shall be in heaven; but upon earth shall be the habitation of terrestrial spirits, who are born on earth. (24)
(24) Note the many implications of vss. 3-8 regarding the progeny of evil spirits.
9The spirits of the giants shall be like clouds, (25) which shall oppress, corrupt, fall, content, and bruise upon earth.
(25) The Greek word for “clouds” here, nephelas, may disguise a more ancient reading, Napheleim (Nephilim).
10They shall cause lamentation. No food shall they eat; and they shall be thirsty; they shall be concealed, and shall not (26) rise up against the sons of men, and against women; for they come forth during the days of slaughter and destruction.
Book of Enoch Chapter 15
1And as to the death of the giants, wheresoever their spirits depart from their bodies, let their flesh, that which is perishable, be without judgment. (27) Thus shall they perish, until the day of the great consummation of the great world. A destruction shall take place of the Watchers and the impious.
(27) Let their flesh…be without judgment. Or, “their flesh shall be destroyed before the judgment” (Knibb, p. 102).
2And now to the Watchers, who have sent you to pray for them, who in the beginning were in heaven,
3Say, In heaven have you been; secret things, however, have not been manifested to you; yet have you known a reprobated mystery.
4And this you have related to women in the hardness of your heart, and by that mystery have women and mankind multiplied evils upon the earth.
5Say to them, Never therefore shall you obtain peace.
Book of Enoch Chapter 16
If you look carefully at the book of Genesis 6:1-2, the book of Jude 1:6 and book of Enoch 15:2; you will see that these writings are about a singular event in the history of the earth and humanity. And perhaps you have thought, “What did God do to address the anomaly?” Did you see the declaration of God in the book of Enoch Chapter 15 & 16; in fact, God declared in the last verse of that Chapter 16 that the evil spirits (demons) will never OBTAIN peace while on this earth. Among other things, that reveals to us the unending search by these spirits for peace and tranquility, which makes them to possess the souls of men (and ultimately, their bodies).
In that book of Enoch Chapter 15:10; God declared that they would eat no food and they shall be thirsty. If you look at “No food shall they eat”, you would think because they are spirits they don’t require food; yet, the LORD concluded that they shall be thirsty. The question is, why would a creature that wouldn’t eat be thirsty? That shows us that their “refusal” to eat food isn’t their will; but the Judgment of God upon them; and God declared that they shall always be in search for WATER! Does that not ring a bell in your mind? Have you not wondered why adults (men and women) will sit in front of bottles of beer, wine and “spirits”; and drink themselves to stupor – ARE THEY THAT THIRSTY?
But if you look beyond those moments behind the bars or at joints spots across dark places; you would realize that these people who drink as if there is no tomorrow are only humans by appearance, but evil spirits by true identity. Since God had placed a damning judgment of these evil spirits; what they now do is to possess human bodies in their numbers and then OBTAIN some “peace” through their hosts. Let me share a portion of the Bible with you:
26 Then they sailed to the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. 27 And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons [b]for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!” 29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.
30 Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?”
And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him. 31 And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.
32 Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. 33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned.
Luke 8:26-39 (NKJV)
This story here reveals to us the desperation of demons (evil spirits) for the bodies of men. The man was mad (not because he loved madness, but because of the activities of demons on his soul and body); so, he would tear his own clothes, and could not live in any RESPONSIBLE HOUSE. Does that not show us how many people in our communities, cities and even streets misbehave (spoil themselves) daily; not because they just love to misbehave; but because demons are in them. According to that Scripture, the man had “Legion” of demons in him. From Google search, I found that Legion represents, a division of 3,000–6,000 men, including a complement of cavalry, in the ancient Roman army. Therefore, the demons inside that man were at least 3,000 in number – do you now see what madness means (being in constant communication with countless unseen spirits and carrying out their wishes and desires). That clear show that many people are different degrees of “madness” depending on the number of demons residents in their bodies (resident evil spirits).
When some people sit door to drink beer, they cannot stand up until they have taken more than 12 bottles; the question is, left on their own, will these people finish 2 bottles of water? But what happens is, these demons achieve their desires through the human bodies they possess – so you find harlots, womanizers, drunkards, thieves, murderers, etc. What these people simply do is to allow these demons, fallen angels to oppress them and others around them through their lives.
Let me pause here for now and allow you to meditate on these few words – till next time we connect again through these channels – stay clear from evil spirits, allow the Word of God to purge your hearts daily from all evil tendencies and urge, that you may become a man or woman of sound mind, love for God and fear of God!
