The Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has once again displayed with class what it truly means to be a leader. Traders at the popular Garki Market in the FCT, Abuja were so much delighted to see Prof. Osinbajo, who alongside with his entourage decided to have a feel of what ordinary Nigerians go through to purchase basic food items in this current economic crisis bedvelling the nation. This singular act once again brings to the fore what true leadership really means.
The usual practise had been that when politicians assumes their office, after much campaigning and soliciting for votes from the electorates, they simply turn themselves to some kind of demi gods where the ordinary masses do not have access to anymore. The acting president has shown that those in the position of power are actually there in trust for the people and therefore should not be far away from them. Political leadership is about knowing what the people are going through, and then making conscious efforts at mitigating the problems.
If there is any good thing that has happened to a Buhari/Osinbajo in two years of leading the nation, it is a worthy and trustworthy deputy in the person of Osinbajo. The lapses that the nation would have been thrown into because of the incessant absence of President Muhammadu Buhari on health grounds would have been monumental had it been that the Vice President is not actively filling in the gap.
And lastly, the development of Nigeria is a collective responsibility of all of us. Each and every one of us must be seen to be doing the right thing at every point in time. As much as we have leaders who are willing to work, we also must cooperate with them to ensure that they succeed. As this administration of President Muhammadu Buhari clocks two (2) by May, 29th; we can only hope that things would change in our nation as they truly promised nigerians during campaign.
