My Fears About Queen’s English Political Office Holders in Nigeria

Nigeria is indeed a great nation, and as such, has been blessed with great potentials – great men, great women, enormous natural resources and large expanse of land. We are so blessed as a nation that the people in government are short of ideas of how to manage the huge potentials of Nigerians. Among the talents that God has blessed Nigeria with are some of the Ministers of the Federal Government; some of which have made Nigeria lower than they met her.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is undoubtedly a great talent in Nigeria. She has been recognized from the World Bank to her village. She was practically in charge of our collective national treasure for the most of the 16 years PDP rule in Nigeria. She has a Phd in Development Economics, a feat that gives her so much authority and confidence. However, she did not do much for Nigeria. She was very eloquent and confident in speech that most Nigerians trust her words than her deeds. At a time when Nigeria was “sinking”, she denied; and claimed that our economy was in good health – I think I later changed her words, when every sane minds was too clear about the reality!

Mrs Diezani Alison Madueke is another talent in Nigeria. She was the first female Minister of the Petroleum ministry; and she later became the first female President of OPEC.  She was bold, eloquent and charming. However, she is alleged to be the first female to be taken the most money from Nigeria in history! That allegation is being examined by EFCC and the British authorities currently. She literally had answers to any question or claim by any Nigerian, she was so self confident that anybody could envy her.

Moving on from those two personalities that spoke so much under the last administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan; I would carefully advise the current Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, never to join the bandwagon. It is one thing to speak well; and it another thing to do well – and what Nigerians pay her daily to do is not well speaking; but well doing – otherwise, she would have been appointed Minister of Information. Each time she speak her Queen’s English, I love to listen; however, she must not use her ability to speak well to replace her ability to do great works.

Nigeria has a nation has been stolen from; and her people have being grossly impoverished – hence, the only good work of any public office holder is to be true to his or her oath of office; irrespective of any temptations.

Mrs. Amina J. Mohammed is another talent in Nigeria that is called to serve Nigeria. She is one woman that has become indispensable to governments in Nigeria, irrespective of party affiliation. She was in-charge of MDG in year for many years. It therefore means that she is not new to Nigeria and Nigerians. However, there is a need for her to know that serving Nigeria is not talk talk talk; but serious work. She is the serving Minister of Environment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and she must use her capacity to communicate to canvass for true environment health and justice in Nigeria.

Enough of reviewing these women, I only hope that Nigerians will no longer be charmed by the eloquence of speech of many Political Office holders; but will engage them creatively towards making them accountable stewards of our National Treasure and Integrity! I rest my case!
