What Does It Mean To Be Vulnerable Before God? If He Isn’t Bigger Than Your Circumstance, He Can’t Help You!

The word ‘vulnerable‘ isn’t a very popular word among Christians today. We usually quote the Scripture, “Let the weak says I am strong“. While there’s absolutely no issue with the Scripture, the issue oftentimes is with our own mindset. We want to become strong and even much more, appear strong. We rarely ask for help, since we consider asking for help an act of weakness.

According to Webster dictionary, vulnerable means capable of being physically or emotionally wounded. The other words for vulnerable is helpless, defenseless, exposed and susceptible. If you look carefully at those synonyms, you would notice the reason for the seemingly disinterest that many believers have with that word.

While there may be many arguments for and against this word, I would love to share a Scripture with us:

7 Because of the surpassing greatness and extraordinary nature of the revelations [which I received from God], for this reason, to keep me from thinking of myself as important, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan, to torment and harass me—to keep me from exalting myself! 8 Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might leave me; 9 but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me. 10 So I am well pleased with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, and with difficulties, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak [in human strength], then I am strong [truly able, truly powerful, truly drawing from God’s strength].

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

If you look carefully at those words, you would realize that God delights in our “vulnerability”: for until we become vulnerable before God, His power and wisdom can’t flow into us.

Come to think of it, can water flow uphill? If there must be a flow, then one point must be lower than the other point. If God must help you, if God must strengthen and save you; then, you must look up to Him. Guess what King David wrote?

I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.

    Psalms 34:5-6

If you want God to demonstrate His eternal power in your life, business, ministry, marriage or career; then, it must be clear to everyone that only Him can rescue you. The three Hebrew brothers at Babylon chose to look towards God in the face of threat to their lives, and even though they were thrown by the authorities of their day into fire, they came out untouched. God is indeed faithful, you can become vulnerable before Him and He won’t let you down.
