Across the world today, believers are taught to trust God for everything. Each time we find ourselves in difficult moments, we quickly take prayer postures and attitudes. We believe that God must intervene before our situations could ever change for the better.
While that isn’t a bad idea, we mustn’t overlook a possibility or tendency of believers believing God for things they can’t even recollect or figure out. The point is this, while it is a good idea to cry out for help when in trouble; it is important that the troubled person becomes clear on what and what he or she needs help for or over.
It has been said that we must be careful in what we wish for, because we might just have it. The question is, “If you have that thing you are asking for now, what would you do with it?”, “If God should ask you as He asked King Solomon of ancient Israel, ‘what do you want me to do for you?’, what would be your response?”
While we may be trusting God for help, while we may be asking God to help; I believe very strongly that God is also waiting for many of us to figure out completely in our hearts what exactly we want Him to do for us.
29 Now as they went out of Jericho, a great multitude followed Him. 30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!”
31 Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; but they cried out all the more, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!”
32 So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
33 They said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” 34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him
Matthew 20:29-34
If you look carefully at those verses, you would realize that prayer that is not prepared or well presented won’t change the situation of anyone. If your circumstance must change, you must change what you ask for or how you ask for it. Eventually, after asking God questions, He will ask you question that will either change your experience or keep your experience – depending on your response to God.
May I ask you now as one raised up and sent by Jesus Christ, “What do you want Jesus Christ to do for you NOW?”
