Undoubtedly, there is a shortage of relevant resources on the earth today. Many families, cities, states and nations are short of needed resources for survival, growth and development; which in a way have created a sense of scarcity in many people, corporations and countries.
Many people have settled for less, accepting whatever comes there way as their own fortune or their own fate. This sense of claim, which has made countless people across nations to possess substances as their own; has equally made many to experience scarcity in their lives.
While these sense of scarcity and sense of claim have created good and great societies, where people believe that they are entitled to portions of the corporate wealth; therefore enticing them to building up portions for themselves and their families – sometimes at the expense of many. They have also created a culture of rat race; where everyone is in pursuit of something every time.
Everyone pursue something every time because everyone wants to build up a portion of collective wealth or resources for himself or herself. While many pursue legitimately; quite a lot of people pursue illegitimately. A great number of people have been eliminated from the earth for the sake of more (emotional, financial or land) space for those that are alive. Somehow, there is a misconception among many men and women that they cannot have THEIRS until someone is denied or killed!
Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. “And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. “And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal (wasteful) living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want………………..And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him………But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;…..Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. “So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant……But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.
So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at anytime; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.
But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him. And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, AND ALL THAT I HAVE IS YOURS….
Luke 15: 11-32
What a story! So filled with lessons and secrets!
This story is a picture of many of us; and equally reveals what or who we ought to be. Like the younger son in that story, many of us are preoccupied with our OWN PORTION (of whatever God has prepared for all). Yet, we often forget that, while the resources of the Father (God) are endless; whatever we collect from Him can be exhausted! Whatever is with God shares His endless nature; however, when we CLAIM any of them for ourselves, they cease from being endless.
The book of Revelations 5:12 reveals that Jesus Christ was to slain to receive riches, glory, honour, power, strength, wisdom and blessings. While we know that He did not receive those things because He lacked them in the first instance; rather, He received them so that WE can all enjoy them with Him.
However, whenever we ask Him to give us any of these things; we are indirectly asking for OUR OWN CLAIM of His possessions. And every portion of Christ’s possession on our hands can be exhausted. So, if any of us ask for a portion of God’s power or wisdom or strength or glory; such a person is trying to lay claim to his or hers in Christ, which can be exhausted in time.
The question then is, “How can one enjoy what God has endlessly?” The answer is in the Scriptures we read earlier. The younger son exhausted everything he took away from the father; but the father told the older son that, since you have always been with me, ALL THAT I HAVE IS YOURS! The secret here is this, staying dependent on God assures any man or woman a guaranteed access to the unlimited resources of God on earth.
You see, you and I can experience tremendous power of God on earth, if and when we do not seek to have our own portion of His power. His power is better being with Him; hence, the key to enjoying God’s power or riches or honour is being with God. Whenever we ask for our own portion of His, we are setting out for a life of independence of Him; which is the first step towards going away from Him. But whenever we choose to stay with Him, we stand to enjoy or experience everything He has endlessly.
No matter how much of God’s power, honour, glory, blessing or strength we HAVE; they will eventually be exhausted; however, we can experience all that endlessly when we choose to stay with Him continuously; seeking and doing His will on the earth.
