A Benin-based socio-cultural and political monitoring group, Edo Lens, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the recent governorship election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to accept defeat at the polls.
This was contained in a statement issued after the group’s spokesman, Mr. Destiny Evbakoe, addressed newsmen in Benin City on Sunday.
He said the call by the group was necessitated by the findings of the organisation that the PDP candidate did not prepare well for the election.
He said the group’s findings also revealed that many of party supporters deceived the PDP and its candidate, saying the supporters intended to vote for continuity, which led to the victory of Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress.
Evbakoe said, “The ill-conceived and sponsored protests being organised by the PDP against the outcome of the most credible, transparent, free and fair election ever conducted in the history of Edo State, further infuriate Edo people.”
