A joint security operation in some forests in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State has led to the arrest of 14 armed men, suspected to be kidnappers.
The joint security operation, which comprised the police, in collaboration with Danga Security and a vigilance group, were said to have raided criminals’ hideouts in the forests.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Mahmoud Mohammed, said in a statement on Friday that all the suspects were arrested and weapons were also recovered.
Mohammed said two persons taken hostage by the hoodlums were also rescued alive.
“Police detectives attached to Anti-kidnapping unit/Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Command in collaboration with Danga Security and a vigilance group stormed criminals’ hideouts inhabited by suspected kidnappers at Jauru, Jange, Bahago, Felu and Geji forests, all in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State,” he said.
He gave the names of the suspects as Umar Gwamna, 19; Ibrahim Yahaya, 25; Hussaini Hamisu, 20; Salisu Adamu, 20; Salmanu Hamisu, 23; Ibrahim Hussaini, 25; Abdullahi Hamisu, 23; Yahaya Mai Saje, 21; Lukman Hamisu, 18; Nasiru Halilu, 20; Sani Abdullahi, 35; Musa Audu, 22; Rabiu Adamu, 20; and Mohammed Abdullahi, 40; all of Jana’s District of Toro LGA.
According to the PPRO, exhibits recovered from the suspects included five motorcycles, three fabricated guns, one rifle and four handsets.
He said investigation into the matter had begun after which the suspects would be prosecuted.
The state Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, had a week ago, said the command had arrested 88 suspects for various offences within the last one month.
He said of that number, 59 were suspected kidnappers while 14 others were armed robbery suspects.
