The Akko Emirate Council in Gombe State has engaged the service of hunters in the community to assist in combating robbery and other crimes.
The Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Atiku, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe on Tuesday that the move became necessary beccause armed robbers were terrorising people in the area.
He said the robbers were using all sorts of weapons including machete to attack women in broad daylight, seizing handbags and mobile phones.
“Security personnel cannot do it alone hence the need for collaborative efforts,” he said.
“The hunters are really trying because they are making an impact,” he said.
He appealed to youths to desist from consuming illicit drugs capable of destroying their future.
In April, armed robbers had along the Gombe -Kumo Road at Kashere Junction, attacked people and killed a lecturer at the Federal University, Kashere and a Cameroonian.
