In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. He formed everything on earth and created man to tend and to keep the earth under His leadership. Eventually, God saw a need for man to have a companion and helper for the assignment committed to his care on earth. Therefore, God took a rib from the man’s side while asleep, and from it; He formed a companion and helper for the man. As soon as God brought the formed companion and helper to man, the man recognized what God has done and named the companion-helper a Woman – because she has been made from the man.
It is therefore clear that the primary purpose of marriage is companionship and help. Loneliness and weakness were the biggest problems facing the man before the woman was brought into his life. Marriage is therefore God’s way of addressing the problem of loneliness and weakness (financially, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, etc.) in any man.
However, we often tell ourselves some lies as a people whenever we want to get married, especially outside God’s will. We say, “Only this man loves me as I ought to be loved.” ” There is no lady as intelligent as this woman”. We say all sought of things to justify our urges and passions. However, in reality, those things are hardly true.
Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave.
Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth.
Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.
So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose………
Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; his is the father of the Moabites to this day. And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day.Genesis 19:30-38
What a story! Do you really believe these ladies that there was no man elsewhere other than their father to impregnate them? That is it! Each time we are consumed by our own lust, we make unbelievable claims and assertions. And if you are familiar with the story of the children of Israel, you will admit that what the daughters did that day was more of a curse than a blessing.
Am writing this piece to warn you against lying to yourself about marriage and about your relationship. Every marriage that is built on deceit or self-deceit will eventually be a journey towards regret and pain. Let your eyes be opened to opportunities around you – there are more men and women outside your present walls. In fact, you may not have reached the place where God intends to bring your wife to you, or take you to meet your own husband. Why then should you settle for mediocrity when there is greatness ahead of you. There were many men at that time, even in their lineage who could sire their children, but these ladies chose to lie to themselves – justifying their emotions and crave. May God help us not to walk in the path of error in marriage in Jesus name. Amen!
