From Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa to President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria has seen, experienced and handled or better still; being handled by 16 people, most of whom have been recycled in history in government.
One thing that is common to most of them is the seeming illusion of “I cannot be defeated or removed from office”. Many coups have come and gone, and many civilians regimes have come and gone; but the impact of this presidential Illusion is apparent across the various states and sectors of the Nigerian society.
While nothing is wrong in being optimistic, it is obvious that what goes on in the minds of most people at the helm of affairs at the Aso Villa in Abuja is beyond optimism. It appears that there is a glaring disregard of truth, objectivity and vision. It appears that it is easier to see a looming danger in the villages than to see one at the Villa.
One thing that have observed is this, very few people are often willing to say the truth around power. People seems to find deception as a more profitable venture around the corridors of power than plain truth.
I remember very clearly that the people around President Goodluck Jonathan never told him all the truth before and during elections; because if they did, he would have saved his precious dollars and pounds for the cold days. And perhaps, Mr President, just like his predecessors is not being told everything he needs to know – really, the Nigeria of today is alot different from the Nigeria of 2014/2015. Things have changed and people have changed too. The earlier Mr President gets this, the better for him and the current ruling party! I rest my case!
