Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, has dismissed as a rumour a report making the rounds that there has been mass killings in the state.
He said the report was not true. Ortom, who spoke during a visit to the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd.), in Abuja, called on the media to shun rumour-mongering and unnecessary speculations to reduce tension and disaffection in the country.
The governor said harmonious and peaceful co-existence was a prerequisite for the development of the country.
Ortom said the federal and the Benue State governments had been working in synergy to bring the farmers and herdsmen’s conflicts under control, and advocated dialogue between the affected groups as a means of fashioning out lasting solutions.
